I ran away from corporate America and became a dog trainer in 2001. Literally. I was fortunate to obtain two apprenticeships with top local trainers and a position in a doggie daycare and office. The doggie daycare was where I learned how dogs communicate, and the countless seminars and conferences given by world-class trainers and behavior experts was where I learned to teach people to communicate with their dogs.
My husband and I were members of a Golden Retriever Rescue for several years. We fostered some dogs but mostly became a hospice home for old dogs. I have volunteered at shelters and enjoyed helping dogs become more comfortable prior to adoption, however, my main focus is to keep dogs out of shelters through positive reinforcement training!
I want people to know that dogs are social, sensitive creatures. Respect and kindness go a long way! These ideas fit perfectly with science-based positive reinforcement training. I feel happy to be part of the team at It’s A Dog’s World because we are all invested in helping people and their dogs be successful.
