Born and raised in Pierce County, Washington, She has had a love of horses and dogs for as long as she can remember. In 2009, she was introduced to the K9 sport of Schutzhund and that quickly transferred into an interest in training pets, service, sport, and working dogs. Over the last several years she has worked with countless trainers using many different methods. In doing so, she have a wide range of tools and methods she can use. Continuing education is essential to being a good trainer. She works with other professionals in the field, attends seminars, and keeps up with
research “You are never done learning!”
In 2011, Mercedes spent a year working at a no kill shelter in El Paso, Texas. While there, she was in the company of a lot of different animals and people. In coming to the realization that that almost all of the dogs were being relinquished due to behavioral problems; she decided that she wanted to make a difference. If more dogs are getting humane and effective training, there will undoubtedly be fewer ending up in shelters! Later that year, Mercedes graduated from Animal Behavior College as a certified Dog Trainer and certified Veterinary Assistant. Helping dogs through issues such as fear, anxiety, and aggression and helping people better understand these issues is important to her. In 2015 she successfully tested for her CPDT-KA. Currently she is working to earn a CCBC-KA and her certification in Applied Animal Behavior .
She Currently shares her home with an American Pitbull Terrier, a Belgian Malinois, a Labrador Retriever, and a Chihuahua mix. These dogs are involved in several activities: Schutzhund(IPO), French Ring, Nose work, Herding, Lure coursing, Dock diving, Obedience, Rally-O and hunting.
